Before I get into NaNoWriMo, let me talk a little about one of my favorite holidays
Halloween!
This time of year has always been fun for me. I've been a fan of scary things since I was a young girl. I had a friend who wouldn't come to my house for sleepovers because my room was covered in horror movie posters. I would be lulled to sleep by Freddy Krueger, Michael Meyers, Jason Vorhees, and Pinhead with their promises of nightmares and dismemberment.

One of my earliest Halloween memories was when a neighbor hid in his flower bed next to his driveway popping up when kids would least expect it. I don't remember if he was covered up somehow, or If I was just so motivated by candy, that I didn't see him lying there. When he jumped up it was as if I had shifted into another dimension I was so scared! I believe I was seven or eight years old and I'll never forget that moment!

Now that I'm the adult, I like to dress up and scare kids in my own neighborhood. I've found each year that they can't wait to get to my house to see what my husband and I come up with. That makes me feel as if I've passed on the tradition.
So Halloween night I will dress up, scare kids, pass out candy, eat too much of the leftover candy, watch a scary movie or two, and then drift off to dreamland.
Then I'll wake up on November 1st and start writing something new!
That's right! I'm doing my first ever NaNoWriMo!

I'm not sure what possessed me to join NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, two days before the start date, but I did. This is a creative writing project to attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in a month.
50,000 words in 30 days!? I mean, it only took me two years to write my first novel that came out to a little over 50,000 words. Getting that process down to 30 days? No worries!
In all honesty, who knows if I'll be able to finish. I'm going to try my best but this is a busy time of year for me. As a performer, Christmas brings in the big bucks. Things don't really pick up until after Thanksgiving, but I need to take the time to get prepared for December. So on top of finding music, editing that music, memorizing words, choreographing songs, and writing a script, I'll also be trying to write a 50,000 word novel. Bring it!
I'll post updates on my project in November, but for now
check out these short stories that are perfect for the holiday and
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
